The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) participated in the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) with an agenda that contains many launches, events and new services aiming to enhance and develop the ICT sector in the UAE.
The United Arab Emirates Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), a TRA initiative, demonstrated one of its latest Web Defacement Detection technologies. The new Web Defacement Detection technology is one of the monitoring services designed to alert constituents to any possible defacement of their websites.
The drive to introduce this service is the increasing number of government websites affected by web defacement attacks and the absence of instantaneous detection and alerts. This service will ensure that the websites are monitored continuously and will add value in terms of security, incident response and brand protection.
Commenting on the TRA participation, H.E. Mohamed Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said, “TRA is eager to participate in IDEX due to its prestigious reputation regionally and globally. Our participation in IDEX 2011 was fruitful where we achieved all the intended goals we have set before the exhibition.”
The Spectrum and International Affairs Department expanded the spectrum frequencies for the monitoring and control system by adding seven stations to the existing mobile stations, to reach a total number of 13 stations. The expansion of the system aligns with TRA policy aiming to preserve spectrum, which is considered a limited resource and to prevent any illegal use of it. The system aims to reduce signal interference in order to achieve the highest quality radio frequency for broadcasts.
In this regard Al Ghanim said: “The TRA aims to achieve the optimal use of spectrum as it is considered a scare national treasure. We use state-of-the-art equipments to monitor any unauthorized usage or misuse, which may affect any relevant party in the UAE.”
The TRA also launched a new spectrum management system which is the first of its kind in the Middle East and the second most powerful in the world for spectrum management. This step supports the strategy of the UAE Government, which aims to shift to electronic government and also it reflects TRA’s dedication to keep up with the latest developments in the field of telecommunications and customer service.
The new system will save time and effort for the TRA clients who want to obtain spectrum permits; they will be able to apply online through the TRA website. Clients need to register for a username, fill out the forms prepared for this purpose and follow-up the status of the application.
