In its capacity as the WSA national expert, The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced the selected nominees who will represent the UAE during the World Summit Award (WSA) E-Content and Creativity. The selection process was carried out through an internal committee that has been established to review the submissions and select the best nominees as per the WSA criteria and rules.

The committee has chosen eight nominees according to WSA guideline for the related categories. The chosen nominees were Abu Dhabi Spatial Data Infrastructure for the e-Government & Institutions category, Mymd (my medical directory) for the e-Health & Environment, Rufoof (online book store) for the e-Learning category, Abu Dhabi Sports Website for the e-Entertainment & Games category, Abu Dhabi Film Festival website for the e-Culture & Heritage category, Arabic IT news Portal for the e-Science & Technology category, eZajil and Smart Hosted UC for the e-Business & Commerce category and Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak website for the e-Inclusion & Participation category.

“We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to all the applicants and we wish the selected candidates best of luck during their participation in the WSA E-Content and Creativity.” said Mohammed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.

“E-Content and Creativity Award provides a unique opportunity to compete with world industry leaders and learn innovative technology applications that advance local content production.” Al Ghanim added.

The competition aims to find the best and most creative e-content applications that promote the effective use of Information & Communications Technology. The WSA is looking for innovative e-content applications that contribute to building a comprehensive information society. The WSA, organized by the International Center for New Media (ICNM) in Salzburg, was started in 2003 as part of the UN’s World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). It is a global initiative to select and promote the world’s best e-content and innovative ICT applications. To date more than 160 countries are actively involved.  The chosen nominees will represent the UAE in the WSA E-Content and Creativity Award which will take place in Hong Kong in April 7-14, 2011.
