The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) extends its support to the 3rd Crisis and Emergency Management Conference 2012 (CEMC), an event designed to raise awareness and educate national crisis management communities and their partners in the UAE and GCC of the systems and processes to be employed during a crisis. The event, set to take place on January 16-17, 2012 at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi, will welcome high level decision makers from UAE government organizations, as well as senior officials and counterparts in the GCC crisis and emergency management community.
Commenting on the TRA’s role at this significant event, H.E. Mohamed Bin Ahmad Al-Qamzi, Chairman of TRA Board of Directors, remarked, “CEMC will highlight an issue of universal concern: crisis and emergency management. As a governmental body, the TRA has a vital role to play in safeguarding the community through crisis preparedness and planning. Supporting this conference rests firmly within our objective to protect our community. Last year, we launched the National Emergency Plan for the Telecommunications Sector (NEP-T) which is intended to provide the foundation for an effective and coordinated emergency response by the UAE Telecoms Sector. It has been designed to address emergency issues that impact or have the potential to impact the telecom’s infrastructure.”
An initiative of the UAE National Emergency Crisis and Disaster’s Management Authority (NCEMA), CEMC 2012 draws on expert insights from thought leaders and authorities from around the world. Attendees to CEMC 2012 will gain knowledge from the recent past experiences of national and international leaders. The conference aims to keep its participants at the cutting edge of how best to respond to potential large-scale emergency situations. Several topics will address crisis scenarios and how to respond from both a strategic and tactical point of view as well as a “real world” standpoint as leaders from other national governmental bodies discuss how their unit responded to disasters on their homeland.
To this end, H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said: “The TRA has carried out extensive groundwork to develop the existing framework which fits into the broader crisis preparedness plan of the NCEMA. In an effort to ensure that our plan for the nation in relation to the telecoms sector remains viable, we must continually update our framework and benchmark best practices. This conference will allow us to do so in addition to providing other insights with regard to emergency management. It is always gainful to hear the stories and ‘key learnings’ from real life instances in order to better understand response methods in emergency situations. The TRA believes that this sponsorship for CEMC exemplifies our commitment to protecting the nation’s community and remaining steadfast with respect to any future disaster.”
The National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority (NCEMA) falls under the authority of the National Security Council (NSC). It is the leading national organization responsible for managing and coordinating all efforts related to crisis and emergency. It is the federal organization responsible for developing national policies and procedures for training and auditing of all crisis and emergency management related activities on a national level.
CEMC 2012 is proudly organized by the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis (INEGMA).
