In line with its efforts to support the use of the Arabic language on the Internet, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced the opening of registration in the Arabic domain name dotEMARAT (امارات .) on November 13th, 2011, to be the first day of the fourth phase of GO Live and general availability for public registration. This phase is the fourth and the last phase of the process through which TRA aims to spread the Arabic domain name dotEMARAT (امارات .) in the country.

The launch of this phase gives everyone the chance to register in the Arabic domain name dotEMARAT (امارات .). The launch comes after an extension of the previous phases due to the TRA efforts to attract a maximum number of registrars that are impatiently waiting for this historical moment. The dotEMARAT (امارات .) fully supports the Arabic language for the Internet domain name, opening borderless horizons.

Commenting on the event, H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said, “We are pleased to announce our approval for the launch of the forth and the last phase of the registration in the Arabic domain name dotEMARAT (امارات .). We hope that this phase will be a starting point for a new era in the internet world. In this regard, the TRA is very keen to meet the requests of all companies and entities willing to join this service.  Our aim is to serve all customers adhering to best practices and methods.”

“We would like to stress again on the great importance of this phase, as it represents a turning point in supporting the usage and the spread of the Arabic language on a wide level. This, of course, will grant us the opportunity to empower our leading position in the region and the whole world, as we contribute to spreading the Arabic language on all levels, and serving those who speak it,” added H.E. Al Ghanim.

The TRA has recently finished the third phase of registration in the Arabic domain name dotEMARAT (امارات .). The Landrush phase, which started on the 4th of September and ended on October 3rd, enabled individuals and companies to apply for special and public domain names.  

The second phase was called Sunrise, and was exclusive for Registered Trademark owners in the UAE and the Arab countries. The second phase, which ended on May 31st, 2011, witnessed the registry of regional and international leading trademark companies of their Arabic dotEmarat (امارات .) domain names.

Furthermore, the first phase of registration was dedicated for government bodies including ministries, federal authorities, local services and authorities, as well as institutions wholly owned by governmental agencies. It ended on October 14th, 2010.

The Arabic domain name dotEmarat (امارات .) represents a turning point in the telecommunications technology sector on the regional level, as it draws new dimensions for the usage of the Arabic language on internet, making the UAE one of four countries in the world to launch a domain name in its national language, and opening the door for more UAE citizens who were not using internet due to language barriers. The fourth and the last phase marks the efforts made by the TRA, which has resulted in the success of the previous phases.
