The UAE National World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Committee represented by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has conducted a WSIS workshop for the Government entities at the Emirates Palace on 7th November 2010.

Recognizing the importance of the revolution in ICT as a mean of shaping the future of countries in achieving the developmental goals outlined in the Millennium Declaration, the workshop aimed at reinforcing the UAE Commitment in moving forward and achieving the goals and plans that emerged from the World Summit on the Information Society and the Millennium Development Goals (United Nations 2003/2005).

H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said: "The contributions of government entities is instrumental in creating the material conditions for access to information and value-added ICT services that contribute to the economic growth through new partnerships and exchange of technology."

"Establishing partnerships with governmental entities in the domain of IT exchange as well as mutual utilization of its technological benefits remains among our most crucial and vital goals for development."

The workshop incorporated significant governmental entities were achievements per regulatory were discussed, in addition to their success stories and initiatives which all full under the WSIS.

Moreover, the National WSIS Committee provided the attendees with a questionnaire which aims at supporting and enhancing the leading position of the UAE Information Society through gathering information about projects, initiatives and activities supervised or conducted by the concerned entities, which fall under the umbrella of the IT Society.. The National WSIS Committee official website www.wsis.ae provides a platform for the relevant governmental entities to log in and upload their information electronically.

The National WSIS Committee continues to follow-up on the implementation of the developmental goals by the year 2015. WSIS works hand in hand with the governmental entities and several concerned bodies The National WSIS Committee is chaired by the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority in addition to members from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Information Authority and the Emirates Competitiveness Council.
