aeCERT-TRA Renews the ISO certificate for the ISMS for the second consecutive year

January 18, 2012

The Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), one of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s (TRA) initiatives, renews the ISO 27001:2005 Certificate for Information Security Management System (ISMS).

This certificate praises aeCERT for implementing the highest standards in its services and its business which are focused on achieving cyber security; the TRA aims to guarantee and achieve members/subscribers’ satisfaction in the UAE. The ISO certificate for Information Security will allow aeCERT to leverage and augment policies and procedures with the aim to provide a safe environment, free of cyber threats and damages.

Commenting on this spectacular achievement, H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said: “The ISO certificate obtained by the TRA for the second consecutive time is a testament to our commitment to adhere to international standards, and our focus on bringing benefit to the users in the UAE. We are very pleased by this achievement, and are determined to continue to seek progressive ways to meet the current user demands and establish a safe future for the information technology (IT) industry in the UAE through aeCERT.”

“As the usage of IT is rapidly expanding, the scope of the cyber risks and threats is gradually increasing day-by-day. Therefore, this unique accomplishment certainly realizes the TRA’s achievements within the information security field; however, it doubles our responsibilities towards the telecommunications industry in the country and urges us to leverage local and international expertise and services to develop this industry, guaranteeing a secure cyberspace,” Al Ghanim added.

The ISO 27001:2005 Certificate is an Information Security Management System published in October 2005, which specifies a management system in order to bring information security under strict management control. The ISO certificates are granted to companies and entities following a detailed audit and in-depth examination to verify the level of compliance with the standard.

The aeCERT aims to sustain a resilient and vigilant ICT infrastructure against a broad range of cyber security threats by encouraging a safe and secure cyber culture in the UAE. Furthermore, by enhancing cyber security laws and assisting in the creation of new laws, aeCERT is spreading information security awareness across the country. It provides a trusted central point of contact for cyber security incident reports, and is fostering national expertise in information security, incident management, and computer forensics.
