Type Approval

Type Approval is a requirement for Radio and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (RTTE) to comply with specific technical and equipment must be registered with The TRA before it can be supplied in the UAE.

Registration of equipment with the TRA must be supported by test reports to declare its conformity and by other technical documentation along with an application form that be submitted to the TRA.

Type Approval Regime
 

The objectives of this regime is to facilitate competition in the supply of telecommunications equipment and to stimulate the availability of a wide variety of equipment at affordable prices, the type approval regime intends not to place unnecessary burdens on manufacturers and suppliers prior to permitting access to the market in the UAE.

The process shall be open, transparent and non discriminatory and support the promotion of competition in the telecommunications sector.  The TRA has set out formal regulations for type approval, and These regulations are the definitive statement of the roles and responsibilities of the TRA and any person wishing to register equipment with the TRA.
The regulations require radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment (RTTE) to comply with relevant technical specifications and to be registered with the TRA before it can be supplied in the UAE. 
The registration is based on a declaration of conformity supported by test reports and other technical documentation. Registered equipment shall be marked or have a mark on its packaging and user information to show that it may be used in the UAE.

The primary purpose of the labeling is to facilitate the easy identification of telecommunication equipment which is approved for use in United Arab Emi-rates. This allows consumers to make an informed choice when purchasing telecommunications equipment.
 
Telecommunications Apparatus Policy
 
The Policy is mainly providing the exclusive rights to the TRA in matters relating to Type Approval; however, the TRA can and may engage other bodies and classes of bodies in the Type Approval Process.
 
Telecommunications Apparatus Regulations
 

These regulations are stipulated pursuant to Article 42 of the Federal Law by Decree No.3 of 2003 Telecom Law, and the Executive Order of the Federal Law by Decree No.3 of 2003 Regarding the Organization of the Telecommunications Sector, Chapter 2, Part 2.

These regulations are concerned only with responsibilities concerning the type approval of RTTE arising under the above Law and Executive Order.  The regulations apply without prejudice to any other legislation applicable to such equipment.

 
Telecommunication Apparatus Guidelines
 
The guidelines explain the practical implementation of the formal regulations and exists alongside them. Although the regulations take precedence, the guidelines gives sufficient information for an application to be satisfactorily completed and submitted to the TRA in most cases.
